The supreme court has dismissed an appeal filed by Aminu Sule Lamido, son of Sule Lamido, former governor of Jigawa state. The appeal had challenged the decision of the trial court, which convicted him for failing to declare $40,000 at an airport. Banks will start deducting 7.5 percent value-added tax (VAT) on banking services, including point of sale (POS) transaction fees, mobile banking transfer fees, from January 19. In an email to customers, Moniepoint Microfinance Bank said the charge stems from a government-endorsed regulatory change. The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has arraigned Amadu Sule, managing director of TMDK Terminal Limited, over alleged N311 billion money laundering. Sule, an associate of Nasir el-Rufai, former governor of Kaduna, was arraigned on Monday at the federal high court in Kaduna on a five-count charge bordering on money laundering and unlawful retention of proceeds of fraud.
