The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the South-West has received a major boost following a well-attended stakeholders’ meeting in Ogun State, where the party’s State gubernatorial candidate, Hon. (Dr.) Adedipupo Adebutu, charged members to remain committed and united ahead of future electoral contests.
Speaking at the meeting, Hon. Adebutu emphasized that the PDP remains the most credible platform for good governance in the region, urging party faithful to stay focused, disciplined, and loyal to the ideals of the party. He stressed that only collective commitment and sacrifice would guarantee the party’s return to power in Ogun State.
The meeting also witnessed mass defections from opposition parties, as two notable leaders—Hon. Ajirotutu of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and Hon. Akoerede Fowoshere of the All Progressives Congress (APC)—formally defected to the PDP alongside thousands of their supporters across the South-West.
In his remarks, the South-West PDP leader and Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, commended the Ogun State PDP leadership for their resilience and strategic organization, noting that political power is never permanent in the hands of any party.
Governor Makinde recalled Oyo State’s past experience in opposition, stating that the PDP’s eventual return to power in the state serves as a reassurance that Ogun State will soon reclaim leadership from the opposition.
“Oyo State has been where Ogun is today. With persistence, unity, and grassroots engagement, power will surely return to the PDP,” Makinde said.
The governor also acknowledged the efforts of the decampees’ leaders, praising their courage and political foresight. He assured them of equal opportunities and fair treatment within the PDP, adding that the party values loyalty and contribution over political background.
Governor Makinde further admonished the new members to return to their wards and local governments to intensify grassroots mobilization and spread the PDP message, describing the task as “political evangelism” necessary for strengthening the party ahead of upcoming elections.
The meeting ended on a high note, with party leaders and members expressing renewed confidence in the PDP’s growing influence and prospects across the South-West region.
