N50bn Saga: How a Failed Plot to Smear Makinde Exposed Federal Double Standards

The so-called ₦50 billion saga and the reactions it generated have once again exposed how gullible many people can be.

There is a clear underground strategy to demarket Governor Seyi Makinde, because certain powerful interests now see him as a future political threat.

After the Bodija explosion, the Oyo State Government requested ₦100 billion from the Federal Government. The President approved ₦50 billion. However, in line with their usual gimmicks, only ₦30 billion was released, while ₦20 billion was tied to “conditions.”

The likely plan was simple: release ₦30 billion, quietly hold on to ₦20 billion, and expect Makinde to publicly announce that he received the full ₦50 billion. That way, the missing ₦20 billion could be shared while Makinde would be forced to account for money he never received. But that plan failed because Makinde refused to play along.

Now ask the important questions:
• Was Bodija reconstructed? Yes.
• Were the affected residents supported? Yes.

This is exactly why criminal networks hate leaders who prioritize the people. Such leaders expose them, make them look incompetent, and weaken their grip. When they can’t corrupt you, they try to destroy your credibility, because they believe everyone must be as dirty as they are. Like pigs, they don’t mind staying in the mud—they only want to stain anyone who chooses to stay clean.

Some people were angry that Makinde did not announce that only ₦30 billion was released instead of ₦50 billion. But the real question should be:
Why didn’t the Accountant-General’s office publicly explain why ₦30 billion was released instead of the ₦50 billion that was approved?

That silence is suspicious.

Even more telling is the Presidency’s silence. Why did the President not question this discrepancy? The answer is political. Makinde has made it clear that he will not support the President’s 2027 ambition. They understand that losing Oyo State would be a major blow, so the strategy is to weaken him using propaganda, noise, and political jobbers—some of whom travel ridiculous distances just to play scripted roles.

Despite all this, Makinde clearly stated that the ₦30 billion is in the account and hasn’t been touched. Yet people are shouting, “Why didn’t he tell us?”—instead of demanding accountability from the federal institutions that short-changed the state.

This is how Nigerian politicians play dummy Nigerians.

Think about it carefully:
If Fayose, Wike, and Makinde were still politically aligned, would Fayose suddenly appear on national television to act out a script? How often has Fayose criticized the current Ekiti governor? Instead, he praises him endlessly, even while Ekiti people complain about underdevelopment—because something is “entering his belly.”

Did Fayose not embezzle Ekiti funds and acquire properties abroad? Can he honestly claim those properties were bought with his salary as governor? Or what exactly were his other legitimate sources of income?

Someone whose family could not count on or how can you a governor for 2 terms and you can’t even help your own family ? If the whole world is against you , then your family should always stand by you but you neglected them.

I pity the people of Oyo State. If you allow individuals who turned their states into ATM machines to package penkelemesi for you, you may never forgive yourselves.

They played this same game with Mimiko. Money was deposited into his account with the expectation that he would spend it quietly, but instead he came out with receipts and exposed them.

We will not allow you to destroy people with credible legacies.

Is Seyi Makinde a threat? Yes, he is. He is a threat because he has performed well in Oyo State and has refused to behave like a so-called constituted authority that exists only to serve selfish interests rather than the people.

When a leader delivers real governance, he naturally becomes a reference point—and that is dangerous to those who survive on failure and chaos.

If Seyi Makinde has done well, then there are people who recognize that value and will continue to support him. Credibility cannot be erased by lies.
