A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain and governorship aspirant in Oyo State, Aare Olayinka Segelu, has extended warm New Year greetings to residents of the state, urging them to uphold peace, unity, and a shared commitment to collective progress as 2026 begins.

In his New Year message made available to journalists in Ibadan, Aare Segelu described the new year as a period for sober reflection, renewed hope, and purposeful action, urging the people of Oyo State to remain steadfast and united despite national challenges confronting the nation.

He commended residents across the state’s various zones for their resilience and enduring spirit, noting that the strength of Oyo State lies in the cooperation and unity of its people, regardless of political, religious, or ethnic differences.

“As we step into 2026, I celebrate the courage, patience, and resilience of the good people of Oyo State. These qualities continue to sustain our communities and support the steady progress of our state,” Aare Segelu said.

The PDP chieftain emphasised the importance of peace and social harmony, stressing that meaningful and sustainable development thrives best in an atmosphere of stability, mutual respect, and collective responsibility.

He urged political actors and stakeholders to conduct their engagements with maturity and restraint as discussions around the 2027 general elections gradually gather momentum.

According to him, politics should remain a platform for service, inclusion, and constructive engagement, rather than a source of division or tension among the people.

Aare Segelu further urged leaders at all levels to remain focused on people-centred governance, accountability, and policies that positively impact everyday life, particularly for youths, women, artisans, and small business owners.

“Our collective advancement as a state depends on leadership that listens, collaborates, and remains committed to the welfare of the people. Progress is best achieved when institutions are strengthened and governance is approached with empathy and responsibility,” he added.

Drawing from his exposure and experience beyond Nigeria, Aare Olayinka Segelu noted that global perspectives and best practices can play a supportive role in consolidating ongoing development efforts in the state when applied with respect for local realities and institutions.

He further encouraged young people to remain actively engaged in civic life and constructive dialogue, stressing that their participation is vital to shaping the future direction of Oyo State.

Aare Segelu concluded by wishing residents a peaceful, productive, and fulfilling New Year, expressing optimism that 2026 will further strengthen unity, stability, and trust between leaders and the governed.

“May this New Year bring peace to our homes, continued progress to our communities, and hope to every resident of Oyo State,” he said.
