The All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged victorious in the just concluded Rivers State local government elections, clinching 20 out of 23 chairmanship seats. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) managed to secure only three LGAs Obio-Akpor, Port Harcourt City, and Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni.
The announcement was made on Sunday by the Chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), Dr. Michael Odey, at the commission’s headquarters in Port Harcourt.
In a dramatic twist, Governor Siminalayi Fubara lost his own Opobo-Nkoro LGA to the APC, a major political upset in the polls. The results mark a significant shift in the political landscape of Rivers State, strengthening APC’s influence while leaving PDP with limited control at the grassroots level.
