President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.
Speaking on Friday during a dialogue session of the northern caucus of the National Forum of Former Legislators in Abuja, the former speaker of the house of representatives urged political leaders from the north to back Tinubu.
Gbajabiamila described Tinubu as a leader whose track record and dedication to national unity merit unwavering support.
He said Nigeria’s progress depends on unity, continuity, and respect for political agreements.
“President Tinubu is not just a southern leader; he is a national leader who has carried every region along,” Gbajabiamila said.
He highlighted ongoing infrastructure projects across the north, including road networks, rail expansions, and agricultural revitalisation efforts, as evidence of the administration’s commitment to equitable development.
“From critical infrastructure to policy reforms, the north is benefitting from a government that believes in equity and shared prosperity,” he said.
“We are laying solid foundations today, and it is only right that the president is allowed to finish what he started.”
Following the meeting, PUNCH reports that the northern caucus endorsed a southern presidency and Tinubu’s re-election.
In a communiqué signed by Rufai Chanchangi and Atiwurcha Albert, the caucus coordinator and secretary, respectively, the group affirmed their commitment to power rotation between the north and south.
“As partners in nation-building, we subscribe to issues that unite us as a people for the peace and progress of our nation, Nigeria,” the statement reads.
“We align with the unifying foundation of our country, which relates to the rotation of power between the North and South. We advocate that the South be allowed to complete its tenure.”
