Ademola Adeleke, governor of Osun, says he is not leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
In a statement issued by Olawale Rasheed, his spokesperson, Adeleke said claims that he is aligning with ADC figures ahead of the 2026 governorship in the state election are false.
The governor said he would contest for a second term on the platform of the PDP and is confident of winning by a wide margin.
“Our attention has been drawn to reports about the imminent defection of Governor Adeleke to the ADC or alignment with ADC bigwigs ahead of the 2026 governorship race,” the statement reads.
“There is no truth in those publications and speculations. First of all, we in the PDP in Osun have already adopted and endorsed President Bola Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election, so there is no alliance with the ADC.
“Secondly, I have no alliance with anyone in the ADC. I remain in the PDP, will run in the PDP, and need no alliance with the ADC to win with a wide margin in 2026.”
Adeleke said he enjoys broad support from Osun residents because of his performance in office.
“The Osun electorate supports me because of my impressive performance since I came to office,” he said.
“That good work is ongoing, and the people are committed to sustaining the delivery of good governance by re-electing me in 2026.”
He asked PDP members to continue strengthening party structures across all levels to prepare for another victory in next year’s election.
On July 21, the Osun state caucus of the PDP endorsed Tinubu for re-election in 2027.
The caucus also reaffirmed support for Adeleke to seek a second term in 2026 as the candidate of the ruling party in Osun.
