Makinde’s Aide on New Towns and Cities Development Unveils Smart City Agenda for Oyo State, Lauds Governor’s Visionary Leadership

The Executive Adviser to the Oyo State Governor and Head of the Oyo State New Towns and Cities Development Authority (OYNTCDA), Mrs. Mofoluke Adebiyi, has commended Governor Seyi Makinde’s visionary approach to governance, describing it as a driving force behind the state’s transition toward smarter, more inclusive, and better-structured urban development.

Speaking during a press briefing held in Ibadan on Monday, July 28, 2025, Mrs. Adebiyi said that the new direction under Governor Makinde’s administration is not only focused on Ibadan but is being implemented across all zones of Oyo State.

“Governor Makinde’s urban transformation agenda goes beyond Ibadan. We are laying the foundation for smart, livable, and economically vibrant towns and cities throughout Oyo State. It is a state-wide effort to restructure our urban and semi-urban environments for future growth,” she said.

While acknowledging the long-standing structural challenges of Ibadan, the state capital, she explained that the administration has begun addressing them through a comprehensive urban planning framework—one that is now being replicated across Oyo’s six geopolitical zones.

“Ibadan, as one of the largest and most historically significant cities in Nigeria, has long suffered from unplanned development. Through the OYNTCDA, we are rewriting that narrative—not just for Ibadan, but for the entire state,” Mrs. Adebiyi emphasized.

She highlighted that the OYNTCDA has initiated an urban renewal master plan focused on creating smart cities where infrastructure, sustainability, and livability intersect. The goal, she said, is to design integrated communities that connect residential, industrial, and tourism hubs to ensure balanced development and economic inclusion.

“We are building cities where people can live, work, and thrive—supported by reliable amenities like water, electricity, transportation systems, healthcare, education, and recreational facilities,” she noted.

Mrs. Adebiyi also revealed that plans are underway for new smart satellite towns and mixed-use districts aimed at reducing congestion in overburdened urban areas while unlocking new corridors of investment and development across Oyo State.

“This is an all-inclusive agenda. Development should not be limited to state capitals alone. That’s why we’re expanding our reach to other local governments and zones—ensuring no community is left behind,” she said.

Calling on residents, investors, urban development professionals, and community stakeholders, she stressed the need for broad collaboration in realizing the vision.

“We’re building for generations to come. It’s not just a government project—it’s a shared mission that requires support from the public, the private sector, and civil society,” she stated.

She encouraged citizens to stay informed and follow the progress of the agency’s programs by visiting the official website: www.oyntcda.oy.gov.ng

The Oyo State New Towns and Cities Development Authority (OYNTCDA) was established to spearhead urban renewal, smart growth, and sustainable development initiatives across the state, with a mandate to create livable, structured, and future-ready cities for all residents.
