The Oyo State Commissioner for Lands, Housing, and Urban Development, Mr. Akin-Funmilayo Williams, has disclosed that the Ministry is set to embark on a comprehensive house numbering exercise across the state, in line with Governor Seyi Makinde’s developmental agenda.
Speaking to journalists in Ibadan, the Commissioner revealed that the Ministry had received the governor’s approval to proceed with the initiative, which is expected to enhance urban planning and service delivery.
“House numbering is one of the promises we made, along with the digitalization and archiving of all documents in the Ministry,” Akin-Funmilayo said. “We are ready to roll out this initiative anytime soon, having secured His Excellency Engr. Seyi Makinde’s nod to proceed.”
In addition to the house numbering project, the Commissioner announced plans to restructure the Physical Planning Department, granting it partial autonomy to improve its operations and service efficiency.
“Let me also mention another key reform — the move toward partial independence for the Physical Planning Department. The goal is to make it a distinct unit or division within the Ministry,” he explained. “Administrative work has already begun, and we expect significant progress before the end of the year.”
Mr. Akin-Funmilayo reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to efficient land administration, improved urban development, and the realization of the Makinde-led administration’s vision of a well-planned, modern Oyo State.
