Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) defeated Inter Milan 5-0 at the Allianz Arena, Munich, on Saturday, to claim their first UEFA Champions League (UCL).
The Parisiens’ lightening start worked to perfection with two goals within the first 20 minutes, and three more in the second half to defeat the Italian giants in the first ever meeting between both clubs.
Victory sealed a first ever UCL title for PSG in the French capital club’s 55 years of existence.
Achraf Hakimi, Desire Duoe (brace), Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, and Senny Mayulu all scored for PSG in the meeting against a very poor Inter side.
PSG were on top in the early exchanges and sliced Inter defence open to take the lead on 12 minutes.
Vitinha’s through ball found Doue who laid it on a plate for Hakimi to slot into an empty net for 1-0.
Luis Enrique’s side would double their advantage with a quick counter attack on 20 minutes. Dembele found Doue on the edge of the area and his shot deflected off Federico Dimarco and beyond Sommer into the net for 2-0 on 20 minutes.
Inter worked their way back into the game but Marcus Thuram’s header went just wide as his team fashioned their first chance of the final.
PSG would however finish the half with more chances. Doue and Kvaratskhelia both went close as Enrique’s side went into the break with their two-goal lead.
It was more of the same in the second half with PSG creating a plethora of chances before crushing Inter.
Doue finished off a well-worked team effort for the third. Kvaratskhelia ran free of the absent defence to slot home the fourth before Mayulu sneaked in a fifth at the near post to complete the rout.
The five-goal margin is the highest in any European Cup final.
PSG also join Olympic Marseille to become only the second French team to win the UCL title.
Enrique, the club’s Spanish coach, also won his second UCL title — since his first with Barcelona in 2015 — and becomes only the sixth coach to win the UCL title with two different clubs.
